Law Enforcement Module


Description
This module is designed to help law enforcement understand behaviors that are based on traumatic toxic stress. It provides tools and strategies to reduce re-traumatization in victims.

Learning Objectives


When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

• Identify the difference between defiance and behavior based on traumatic toxic stress.
• Identify two ways to de-escalate behavior that is based in traumatic toxic stress.
• Know the range of responses to trauma including traumatic disassociation.
• Employ three strategies to reduce re-traumatization in victims.
• Plan strategies for self care.

Presenters


The facilitators for this module are:

• Vince Dutto, a 20 year veteran of law enforcement who has worked with Child Advocacy Centers since 2007. He is currently a Lieutenant with the Placer County District Attorney’s Office Investigations Unit and oversees cases in the Family Protection Unit and Major Crimes.

• Suzie Walsh, a Detective for the San Luis Obispo Police Department who has been a police officer for seventeen years. Mrs. Walsh has been a Child Forensic Interviewer for fourteen years and interviewed thousands of adult and child victims of sexual abuse.

Continuing Education Units


This course meets qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (provider #128510). The cost is $20. Please complete the module for information on how to apply.
